Solid Hardwood

What is it? Solid hardwood is simply just a solid piece of wood milled from a piece of lumber. We offer hardwood from 3 to 5 inches wide and above. You’re also able to choose the thickness of your wooden floors. The thickness of solid hardwood flooring starts at ¾” and it can extend beyond 5/16”.  Besides the length and thickness of your floor boards, Ability will also work with you to determine what species of hardwood would work best for your home. You can choose between a number of wood species that include:

  • Southern Pecan
  • Hickory
  • White Oak
  • Teak
  • Brazilian Cherry and dozens more

We also offer different designs and patterns for you to choose from including:

Parquet Handscraped Floors- Parquet floors are wooden floors that come in non-traditional patterns and sizes (squares, triangles etc.) hand-scraped flooring creates a more aged, distressed look of the wood flooring while still providing a quality, practical flooring experience that’s durable and practical.

Custom Wood Flooring

There are a few things to keep in mind when considering solid hardwood floors. All homes are different, so these may or may not be things you will experience with your solid hardwood floors. Moisture and temperature changes can cause solid hardwood flooring to shrink and expand which could lead to gaps in the floor during cold, dry seasons. All solid floors can be sanded and refinished when needed, but this often only occurs within a decade or two.

Our main priority is helping you find the right solid hardwood flooring for your personal style and what would best accompany your home.to accompany the style of your home and your family’s lifestyle.

Engineered hardwood

Much like solid hardwood floors, engineered hardwood is hypoallergenic, easy to clean, and made from real wood. The difference between these two flooring types is how they are designed. Engineered flooring consists of a veneer layer that is between .5 and 4 mm thick. It consists of 3 to 10 layers of wood that are assembled and glued together resulting in a floor board approximately ¼” to ¾” thick. Engineered hardwood is designed to withstand changing temperatures and the expanding and shrinking prone to many other types of hardwood floors.

Engineered hardwood can be applied directly over concrete and unlike solid hardwood, engineered hardwood cannot be sanded and refinished. However, it can be recoated to restore the floor’s surface.

Laminated hardwood

Unlike solid and engineered hardwood flooring, laminated hardwood is not made from real wood. It is simply pressed particle board with a photograph of wood to give the appearance of wood flooring. There is a stability layer within the laminated wood floor made from fiber board that, when reinforced with a special reisin, can increase water resistance and durability.
